Learn how junior futsal competitions work in Queensland, including Football Queensland pathways, State Titles, schools futsal, and nationals.
May 26, 2026
Queensland has multiple junior futsal competitions ranging from local community leagues to Football Queensland state pathways and national championships.
However, the system can be confusing for parents because several organisations operate simultaneously, including Football Queensland (FQ), AFA, and AMF competitions.
This guide explains how junior futsal pathways work in Queensland, what competitions exist at different age groups, and how players progress toward representative and national opportunities.
Although there are several private companies running futsal, the only official body connected to Football Australia and hence, FIFA, is Football Queensland.
As such, we will only be discussing FQ competitions although you may have also heard of AFA Regionals or the AMF World Cup.
Football Queensland is currently affiliated with:
For younger players, most competitions in Queensland are community-based rather than formal representative pathways.
Football Queensland’s advanced junior leagues generally begin at U12 level, meaning younger players often develop through club competitions, schools tournaments, and invitational events before entering state-level pathways
FQ runs schools competitions throughout the year. Typically a 3-day tournament every few months, where making the final of one tournament qualifies you to make the next one.
If you play for a club that enters the State Titles, you can be invited to trial for a Football Queensland state team, to play in the Football Australia National Futsal Championships in January.
State Titles is held between the term 3 and term 4 school holidays, typically at Nissan Arena or at Carrara
The 2027 and 2028 Nationals will be hosted on the Gold Coast but rotates states.
Australia has only 2 national teams recognised by Sport Australia and FIFA. The Men's national futsal team, the "Futsalroos"; and the Women's national futsal team, who don't have a nickname.
You can only be selected for these teams by playing in FIFA affiliated competitions.
In Australia, this means you can only be assessed on your performance in Football Queensland, Football Australia or other competitions that are branch of one of these 2 bodies.
If your child is "selected to represent Australia" outside of these conditions, it is an AFA tour team or an AMF World Cup Team, not FIFA affiliated.
There is value in these teams, but they are not associated with FIFA, nor are the opponents they verse.
There are Facebook groups comprising members of all bodies who post updates around their competitions including:
Do note again that these groups cover all futsal in Australia/QLD, not just Football Queensland
